We are a group of dynamic and talented design professionals committed to serving our clients and the communities we serve. For over 35 years, the Interior Design Society has been rich source of networking, continuing education, and stewardship in the community. Our Portland, Oregon chapter was founded in September 2008 to bring like-minded independent design professionals together in one organization. It is obvious in all we do, our member talent, cooperation, and enthusiasm is unmatched in any design organization in Portland.

What is the Interior Design Society?

At the local level, we are dedicated group of design professionals; designers, decorators, stagers, re-designers and industry partners, committed to providing our clients with the best service in the industry.   As a design professional you can expect to be supported, educated and benefit from opportunities that put you in contact with your clients.

At a national level, the Interior Design Society (IDS) is an independent national organization more than 4,000 members strong. One of the country’s largest design organizations dedicated to serving the residential interior design industry, the Interior Design Society offers members community, education and business support. The IDS National headquarters is located in High Point, NC, the world’s home furnishings capital.

Founded in 1973 by the National Home Furnishings Association (NHFA) to support interior designers based within furniture stores, the Interior Design Society has long since expanded its focus. All qualified residential design professionals, including those who work in a retail environment, are welcome and encouraged to join IDS as an adjunct to their classroom education.

Welcome to new possibilities, new opportunities and a host of organizational improvements intended to make IDS membership all the more valuable and personally rewarding for all members.

Advance Your Career

Seminars, design workshops, and the CQRID certification exam (www.cqrid.org) can contribute to career advancement, even without a four-year degree. IDS has a place for everyone associated with residential interior design or designers.

Membership levels begin with the Student level followed by Affiliate, Associate, Professional. As you advance, so does your membership level. To advance from Student to Associate, you can have education, experience or a combination of both.

The primary benefit of membership is credentialing, the use of “IDS Affiliate”, “IDS Associate” or “IDS Professional.” Other valuable member benefits include product discounts; special discounts from our Partners in Design members (national commercial companies); access to property insurance; discounts on and access to educational programs. A national marketing campaign is using every media channel possible to connect consumers with IDS interior designers. Our branding initiative will drive consumers to this new IDS website, where IDS Affiliates, Associates or Professionals can have their business contact information listed. With nearly 30 chapters In a growing number of U.S. cities, IDS membership can make a direct impact on your business the moment you join. Designers and our commercial members get together at chapter meetings, activities, educational seminars and special events.

People become IDS members for many reasons, and one is the chance to lead a local chapter. Professional development throughout the year culminates in our IDS Chapter Leadership Conference.
