Last week in Dallas, Texas at the Interior Design Society, (IDS) Leadership Summit, the Portland Oregon Interior Design Society Chapter was voted the Most Promising New Chapter.
“It is a great honor to accept this award. We couldn’t have done it without the help and support of our IDS board and members. We are thrilled to have such outstanding growth in our chapter, ” said the President of the Portland chapter, Pamela Sandall, after accepting the award on behalf the members.
Since its inception only a few short months ago, the IDS chapter has the design community buzzing. The local chapter fills a need for designers, decorators and home staging professionals seeking growth in personal and business development, continuing education, networking, and volunteer and community outreach.
Angela Todd, Vice President-Elect notes, “The vast majority of our members are independent designers with small businesses. Some of us hold four year design degrees, some hold degrees in the arts and other areas, and some of our members have training and credentials through certification programs and various life experiences. Our common thread is our desire to help our clients achieve great design, and operate healthy, successful design businesses that strengthen the communities we serve. Our local chapter supports all independent designers in all facets of their businesses.”
Our January monthly meeting included over 70 attendees at Area Floors in Tigard, Oregon. The meetings highlights included a 2009 color trend presentation from a member of the Color Management Group. Also announced was the Interior Design Society’s partnership with Portland’s Home Builders Association for the 2009 Ultimate Open House. Designers and vendors of the IDS will be styling and staging homes for builders throughout the Portland metropolitan area. The Ultimate Open House will be held April 18th – 19th and 25th – 26th.
Portland IDS meetings are open to interior designers, decorators, redesigners home stagers, tradesman and contactors, and vendors who serve the design trade. The group meets the last Wednesday of each month from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Our February meeting is at Sherwin Williams in the Pearl District at 1332 NW Flanders in Portland, Oregon.
